Conceição de Jacareí can easily be reached by car or bus from Rio de Janeiro city, Sao Paulo, and Paraty. Conceição de Jacareí is the second district of the city of Mangaratiba, municipality of Rio de Janeiro, and located on the border with the municipality of Angra dos Reis. Conceição de Jacareí has about 3,000 inhabitants, and once there you can find restaurants, pousadas, mini-markets, pharmacies, and a gas station. Neither Conceição de Jacareí or Abraão on Ilha Grande have banks so it is important to bring cash, although most places accept credit cards. Most of the movement in the town happens by the beach close to the tourist pier where our boat departs from.
How to get from Rio de Janeiro to Conceição de Jacareí
Conceição de Jacareí is 150 km from the Rio States capital, and it takes about 2 hours to travel there by car, or 2.5 hours by bus.
From the city or the Rio GIG airport, get onto the Rio-Santos BR 101 highway as soon as you can and head south. Drive pass the Mangaratiba turn-off and keep going straight and the highway actually dissects the town of Conceição de Jacareí. The beach will be on your left and you must cross the highway to find the tourist pier.
The bus from Rio to Conceição de Jacareí is operated by Costa Verde Transportes, and there are 8 departures a day that leaves from the Rio Novo Bus Terminal. There is no bus terminal in Conceição de Jacareí, so you request a stop on the side of the highway where it is an easy 300 meters walk to the beach where you will find the Conceição de Jacareí.
There are 3 shuttle transfers a day that picks up around Rio from the neighborhoods of Copacabana, Leblon, Ipanema, Leme, Botafogo, Catete, Gloria, Lapa, Santa Teresa, Centro and more. Once all passengers are onboard you will drive 2 hours south to Conceição de Jacareí. If going to Abraao you will be given an included boat ticket upon your arrival.
How to get from São Paulo to Conceição de Jacareí
Conceição de Jacareí is 400 km from the city of Sao Paulo, and it takes about 6 hours to travel there by car. The fastest route is to drive out of the city on the BR 116 north as if driving to Rio city. Not far after Volta Redonda turn onto the RJ-149 Highway to Mangaratiba until you reach the BR 101 then head south to Conceição de Jacareí. The highway cuts through town and you will find the beach and the tourist pier down some streets off the highway to your left.
How to get from Paraty to Conceição de Jacareí
Paraty is a popular colonial town about 2 hours south of Conceição de Jacareí, and many tourists visit Ilha Grande from there.
If you are driving, you simply travel north 135 km up the BR 101 towards Rio and once you reach Conceição de Jacareí, you can find the tourism pier just 300 meters from the highway to your right.
There are 3 regular departures per day from Paraty to Ilha Grande via Conceição de Jacareí. You can be picked up from your Paraty accommodation and you will drive 2 hours north and be dropped off near the Tourism Pier where you will be given a ticket for the boat to Abraao on Ilha Grande.
