This is the shortest route to Ilha Grande

Boarding is at the private pier of Condomínio Porto Real, and arrival is at the main pier of Vila do Abraão.

  • The boarding pier is inside a large luxury residential complex, in its private marina.
  • Only private boats and a few commercial boats leave from the pier.
  • Complete safety, comfort and convenience.
  • Both directions run daily, with departures throughout the day.

Is this crossing right for you?

Yes, if you are staying in Vila do Abraão, where most of the guesthouses (pousadas) are located. If your accommodation is in Araçatiba or Praia Vermelha, on the western side of the island, the best route is the direct crossing departing from Angra dos Reis.

On board the Flexboat

The boats used for the crossings to Ilha Grande are called Flexboats or fast speedboats and carry 30 to 50 passengers. They are agile, sturdy vessels designed to ensure safety and stability throughout the entire journey. The fiberglass hull combined with inflatable sides provides exceptional stability on the water. All vessels are regularly inspected by the Brazilian Navy and are equipped with a life jacket for every passenger as well as communication devices.

Avoid large, heavy suitcases. See the luggage policy.

Arrival in Vila do Abraão

The boat docks at the main pier in Vila do Abraão, in the center of the beach. There are no cars on Ilha Grande: the streets are made of sand and dirt, which can make pulling wheeled luggage difficult.

  • On foot: Most guesthouses (pousadas) are just a few minutes’ walk from the pier.

  • With a porter: At the pier, you will find licensed porters (carreteiros) wearing yellow T-shirts labeled “Carreteiro Legal”. They can transport your luggage and help you locate your guesthouse.

If you need help carrying your luggage to the guesthouse, ask the porters, who are always at the pier.

  • Bring cash: Many places accept credit cards and Pix, but there are no ATMs on the island.

  • Sunscreen and sunglasses: The sun’s reflection on the water is strong, even with a covered boat.

  • Light rain jacket or poncho: Very useful on windy or rainy days, and especially handy on the return trip from speedboat tours.

  • Small suitcase or backpack: Makes it much easier to navigate on the boat and along the island’s sandy streets.

  2. Arrival: Arrive at the Marina Porto Real pier at least 20 minutes before departure.

  3. Check-in: Look for our crossing team and check in by showing your voucher on your phone (or printed) along with a valid photo ID.

  4. Boarding: A few minutes before departure, our staff will escort passengers to the boat.

  5. Comfort: At Marina Porto Real, you can wait for your boarding in a covered area with seating available.

What happens if I miss the boat?

If you are not at the pier at the scheduled time, the departure is treated as a no-show and the ticket is not refunded. We always recommend arriving early. If you are unexpectedly delayed, contact us on WhatsApp as soon as you can.

Is the crossing to Ilha Grande safe? Does the boat run in the rain?

Yes. Flexboats are certified by the Brazilian Navy, carry life jackets for every passenger and are operated by experienced sailors. They have a fibreglass hull and inflatable sides, which give stability and safety. They run normally in the rain. In extreme sea conditions, the departure is cancelled for safety and you will be notified immediately.

What is the difference between the ferry and the Flexboat?

The public ferry leaves from Mangaratiba and is a cheaper option, but much slower (about 1h30 at sea), sails in open / rough sea (many people feel seasick during the crossing) and runs only once a day. The speedboats (Flexboat) make the trip in a third of the time, have more departure times and allow online booking with a guaranteed seat.

They are also extremely safe, with a fibreglass hull and inflatable sides.

Do I need to book the crossing in advance?

Yes, always. On public holidays, weekends and in high season, we recommend booking even further ahead. Each boat has a limited number of seats per departure, and they do sell out. When you book online, you get your confirmation right away, then the voucher by e-mail, and you just show it at the pier.

Is there parking nearby?

Yes, Condomínio Porto Real has covered parking where you can leave your car. Book in advance. Payment is per day.
