How Long to Spend in Ilha Grande
Although you may feel like staying forever, even a day trip is possible to Ilha Grande from Rio de Janeiro. We would definitely say stay longer than a day trip if possible because Ilha Grande has a lot you can do, but also it is a destination where you will love just doing a lot of nothing as well. We hope to give you a realistic idea of how long is best to stay in Ilha Grande.
Itinerary for a 1 day trip to Ilha Grande
If coming from Rio, you travel 3 hours south and if you get to Conceição de Jacareí for our first boat you will get to the island around 11:30 am. Our last boat departs Ilha Grande at 17:30 pm which means you can enjoy 6 hours on the island which is enough time to go to Lopez Mendez beach which is considered one of the best beaches in Brazil, and also explore Abraão and it´s surroundings.
Itinerary for a 2 day trip to Ilha Grande
If you have 2 days and 1 night on the island then on the first day you could go to see Lopez Mendez beach and also explore Abraão and its surroundings. On the second day, you could do a boat trip and you might consider a half-day cruise to see a couple of places such as the Blue Lagoon, or even do a full day trip around the island visiting some of the more remote beaches. Remember to make sure you are back by 17:30 for the last boat departing Isla Grande.
Itinerary for a 3 day trip to Ilha Grande
If you have 3 days then the first two you can do the itinerary suggested above and then on the 3rd day do some of the popular hikes, such as to the waterfalls, the old prison, or even walk up the Pico do Papagaio for some amazing views of the whole island.
Itinerary for a 4-day trip or longer to Ilha Grande
If you are lucky enough to be staying 4 days or more on Ilha Grande, then we suggest visiting some new beaches and hiking new trails every day, or even revising some beaches just to do nothing for the day but relax in Paradise.
